Lesson 4 of 12 · 21 min

Mixing from three primaries

Build a mixing chart with one warm and one cool of each primary, then name every colour you can make.

Lesson notes

  1. Six paints give you more range than twenty if you know how they interact. We choose a warm and a cool of each primary.
  2. Mix on the palette, not on the paper, and keep a dab of each mix on a scrap so you can repeat it.
  3. Muted greens and greys come from complements. Lena shows how to get a convincing leaf green without opening a green tube.
